If you haven't got anything nice to say...
For those of you not familiar with the NO H8 campaign here's a little background information; on November the 4th 2008 in the U.S there was a proposition posed in order to get the ban on same-sex marriage revoked. The proposition was denied.
As a result of this and seeing it as an opportunity to protest against this and begin a new political movement, celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley set out creating a series of images featuring celebrities and well-known faces in the American community in order to combat the ignorance and hatred suffered by homosexual people. There were no specific requirements regarding sexual orientation and/or gender, and the majority of those who participated aren't actually homosexual themselves, but passionate about equal rights and justice for those being oppressed around them. The celotape over their mouth is to signify the unheard voices of this 'under class'.
What started off as a simple grassroots campaign spread to Facebook and other well known social networking sites and will now be used on billboards and in magazines. Clearly there's power in numbers!
This is probably my favourite campaign of the year. What initially drew me to it was the memory of one of my favourite advertising campaigns as a kid - United Colors of Benetton. Unlike Benetton though, NO H8 isn't reliant on bold, bright colours but still effectively symbolises the idea of unity through love and passion. Celebs backing the NO H8 campaign include Tila Tequila, Aubrey O'Day, D-Woods and my personal favourite - Steph Jones (he's the second guy down). I think I'm in love!
Not forgetting Steve-O from the infamous Jackass who decided to recreate a same-sex marriage posing as both bride and groom, wait for it.... marrying himself. Love it!! x
